Welcome to Temple Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity and death in the United States, affecting more than twenty percent of all Americans. Our cardiac rehabilitation is an integral component in the comprehensive care of people with heart disease. Cardiac rehabilitation combines prescription exercise with nutritional counseling, risk factor modification, and education. The goals of our program are to improve functional capacity, alleviate or reduce activity-related symptoms, modify coronary risk factors, and improve quality of life. This comprehensive program includes a medical director (physician), cardiac nurse and nurse practitioner, registered dietician, and exercise physiologist.
Who will benefit from cardiac rehabilitation?
Individuals with angina, a recent heart attack, angioplasty and stenting, open heart surgery, congestive heart failure, a heart transplant, peripheral vascular disease, heart valve disease, and/or coronary artery disease. Speak to your physician to see if you would benefit from cardiac rehabilitation.

What are the components of the program?
Every patient will receive a complete medical evaluation, including a physical exam, past medical history, family medical history, risk factor assessment, psychosocial assessment, body composition, body mass index, muscular strength and flexibility assessment, and a dietary assessment. An individualized treatment program, including prescriptive exercise, coronary risk factor modification, and nutritional counseling, will be developed to meet the specific needs of each patient. Collaboration with Cardiologists, Primary Care Providers, and additional members of the medical community are an integral component of our multidisciplinary approach and philosophy.
Cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, flexibility, relaxation and stress management, dietary support and education, and psychosocial support will be included. An emphasis is placed on continued independent exercise and a "heart healthy" lifestyle at the termination of the program.
